Why granite worktops have become the new norm in kitchen décor

For more than a decade, granite countertops have become all the rage. However, in today’s times, finding a full granite kitchen is pretty much common. There has been too much application of granite worktops in kitchen since the time they were first introduced in 1987. Initially available in two colors, there were pretty much expensive and was not considered great material due to its lack of flexibility.

In less than a decade, they turned from being luxurious to ubiquitous and became a part of every new condo or apartment irrespective of the price. But have you ever though what made them so much popular in the market. There could be several reasons behind this jump.

Granite is found all over the world, and it is much cost effective to dig it out in India and Brazil. Though there are various diseases associated with this profession, this business sector is cheap, especially in the labour aspect.

Contrary to architectural stone applied on the exterior of buildings, the stone for counters and floors is a uniform 3/4" thick. By cutting the stone on site the defective slabs can be separated before they are transported, and can even be treated further into tiles, so that there is less transport of waste. Once cut into the new shape, the 3/4 inch thick slab, it can be put into the standard type for shipping, the shipping container. So what if most of the container is full of air, the cost of shipping is more than compensated for by the low cost of the material. Rapidly granite was no longer just available in two colours, but in dozens.

So, if you’re planning to decor up your kitchen, there is nothing better than choosing granite worktops for the same.
